Common uses

This medication is typically used for rheumatoid arthritis. It may also have other uses. It requires a few weeks to take effect.

How to use this medication

This medication is typically used twice a day. However, your pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed.

It must be used regularly and continuously to maintain its beneficial effects. Be sure to keep an adequate supply on hand. This medication should not be taken with food. It is best taken on an empty stomach, one hour before or 2 hours after a meal.

To ensure effectiveness, avoid taking milk, dairy products, antacids or mineral supplements (calcium, iron, magnesium or zinc) for at least 2 hours before and after taking this medication. It is recommended to drink plenty of water while using this medication.

Possible side effects

In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably:

• it may cause mouth irritation and sores;
• it may decrease your appetite;
• it may cause diarrhea;
• it may cause spots or redness of the skin;
• it may decrease your sense of taste;
• it may cause nausea or, rarely, vomiting.

Each person may react differently to a treatment. If you think this medication may be causing side effects (including those described here, or others), talk to your health care professional. He or she can help you to determine whether or not the medication is the source of the problem.

Storage information

As with most medications, this product should be stored at room temperature. Store it in a secure location where it will not be exposed to excessive heat, moisture or direct sunlight. Make sure that any leftover portion is disposed of safely.

Nutritional impact

When using this product, you will develop an increased need for certain nutrients. This increased need cannot be met through changes in your diet. For the duration of your treatment, it is recommended that you take a daily nutritional supplement to prevent any deficiency. Ask your pharmacist to suggest a supplement rich in vitamin B6 (pyridoxine)
