2010 trends in nail polish
The word is out! The latest fashion trends are now at our fingertips, with nails, too, being dressed up to the nines! Spring, summer and fall 2010 will see the arrival of everything from delicate lady fingers to the funky electric look and evening elegance!
Nailing down the hottest fads in 2010!
The new decade opens on an expressionistic note with strong contrasts and vibrant, energetic hues that border on shocking!
Here are the three main trends to expect.
1. Nails au naturel
No, we’re not talking about the French manicure! While sophisticated, it’s definitely a thing of the past, for now! What you want for 2010 is a well trimmed, natural nail veiled in a soft sheer hue (pink, Venetian rose or lilac...and please, stay away from pearly finishes!).
2. All hands on the colour wheel!
Pick up your paint brushes and palettes or dip your fingertips in a rainbow! Nails are coming out of the shadows! Mauves, perky pinks, bright reds, intense orange hues, shades of wild turquoise and lime green! While you’ll find them in sparkly or pearly versions, they’re even more chic and edgy in a simple glossy or semi-matte finish.
And if selecting your perfect shade is too much for you, don’t fret! Choose them all! In 2010, nails can don a variety of different colours, all at once!
If the gothic look is where you’re at or if you enjoy the elegance of darker shades, feel free to choose a polish in a burgundy, dark chestnut brown or even grey or black.
3. Give me nail art!
No problem! There’s a range of possibilities out there right now, and they’re all hot: powdered sparkles to apply over nail polish (polish-sparkle duos); designs (like the Scottish tartan pattern!) on natural or artificial nails; nail art stickers (tiny flowers, diamonds, moons, etc.); colours you apply with a pen brush (use it to draw designs like strips, waves, diagonal lines!)
