During her latest segment, our beauty expert, Caroline Théorêt, answered a few questions for us and then discussed the trends we can expect to see this spring and summer.


Questions from the public

1- I’ve heard that you can sleep with a moisturizing mask on. Is that true?

Yes, but be sure to choose a moisturizing mask, not a purifying one. A purifying mask would dry out the skin too much.

If you sleep with a moisturizing mask on, the benefits will be delivered within minutes of application. After that, the mask will act to seal moisture in.

2- Why do my eyes water when I apply my eye care cream?

First, eye care cream  should be applied to the orbital cavity (the bone), not to the lower or upper eyelids. When it penetrates the skin, the cream acts beneath the epidermis (like a drop of water on a tissue).

Second, your cream should be suited to your needs. For example, if you do not have wrinkles, use a product that prevents rather than corrects wrinkles.

3- What are serums for?

Let me start by saying that serums are not absolutely necessary. However, it has been proven that they make your regular products twice as effective. Serums can be compared to multivitamins we take round to supplement our diet.

4- What product can I use to remove dead skin from my lips?

To exfoliate lips, a toothbrush or granulated sugar are your best bets.

5- I have many wrinkles on my eyelids. How can I hide them with makeup?

The important thing to remember is not to apply the product directly on the wrinkles. For example, if you apply foundation to a wrinkle, it will only make it more visible. As for eye shadow, avoid anything too drastic: not too pearly, not too matte. A light-reflecting eye shadow is a good choice.

Quick tip: To keep your eye shadow from smudging or from ending up in the crease of your eyelid at the end of the day, apply first an eye shadow base.

 

Spring-summer trends

With spring approaching, we’re all on the lookout for the up-and-coming trends of the season!

Here are 3 makeup trends that promise to score big this season:

  • Doll-face look: a fresh, clear complexion, neutral blush, pastel eyes (lilac, powder blue, baby pink, etc.), fire-engine red on the lips.
  • Angelic look: a fresh, clear complexion, peach blush, pink, coral or turquoise on the eyelids, pink or coral lips.
  • The golden look: a tanned, sun-kissed complexion, neutral blush, bronze and tawny on the eyes, natural lips.

Nail polish

As for trends in nail polish, there’s something for everyone this season! If you’re the bold type, go for red, fuschia, turquoise, lime green, mauve, etc. If you like a more toned-down look, you’ll find polish in shades of taupe, golden and cream.

Trends:

  • Apply a different colour on each nail;
  • Apply designs or decals in various colours and shapes (flowers, diamonds, etc.).
