Ankle-to-toe foot care for gorgeous tootsies!

Are you taking good care of your feet? Not just your nails, but your toes, your soles and everything in between, as well? Here’s a step-by-step guide to keeping your feet gorgeous and healthy, especially during sandal season!

Step-by-step foot care

Good foot care requires some skill and a bit of time. You’ll need at least 30 minutes to complete this routine. (But that’s still less time-consuming than a trip to the salon!)

  1. Soak your feet in warm, soapy water for at least ten minutes, (a few drops of liquid dish detergent should do the trick.)
  2. Clean the surface of your nails and push back the cuticles using the appropriate tools: a branchwood, orangewood stick or cuticle pusher.
  3. Soak your first for another few minutes.
  4. Apply an exfoliating product, scrub your feet then leave it on in for several minutes. Rinse.
  5. Trim your nails and gently file the sides into the shape you're looking for (square for French manicure; slightly rounded for a classic look; short for a simple, clean look, etc.)
  6. With a pumice stone or soft file (an emery board or Diamancel file), gently rub away any calluses.
  7. Apply to your toes a moisturizing oil made especially for cuticles.
  8. Apply a generous amount of moisturizer over the entire surface of your feet and massage.
  9. If needed, remove any leftover moisturizer from your nails (with a cotton ball or tissue) and finish off with your favourite nail polish!

Important tips!

Never cut your cuticles, as this only causes them to grow back thicker and more unruly. To prevent their growth, it’s better to soften the area with plenty of moisturizer.

In addition, don't use a metal file to remove calluses, unless you have experience. Metal files are too abrasive and ironically just lead to more growth and possibly crevasses.

You should always file your nails in the same direction, moving towards the centre of your nail, but never back and forth or up and down as this can split and damage them.
